A River in Time by Christine Gregory

christine gregoryChristine Gregory is a painter, writer, photographer and naturalist. She lives in the Derbyshire Dales and spent twenty years living above Bradford Dale in Youlgrave. In that time she has explored and photographed the local wildlife and landscape, making a special study of brown hares and also building a considerable portfolio of photographs of the River Bradford and its flora and fauna.

Previously, Christine taught social and political studies in adult and community education before going on to teach radio skills and print journalism in further education. She has also made community-based radio programmes and political features for BBC Radio Sheffield and Radio 4. She now concentrates fully on painting, writing and photography.

Her book, A River in Time, explores the evolution of the landscape of the White Peak and the impact of human activity on the land and its rivers from the monastic grange farms to enclosures and lead mining. The book is pictorial journey along the River Bradford, from its source to the confluence with the River Lathkill, which reveals the river’s previous uses and depicts many of the wild creatures that live in and alongside the water.
